Overview

Black Grove is a textile installation composed of intertwined threads and ropes of varying thicknesses. It forms a metaphorical “forest” through the accumulation of fibers with diverse densities and lengths. Through craft-based weaving techniques, the artist maximizes the tactile materiality of textiles, expanding fabric from a functional medium into a sensory experience.

Approach

Continuing this exploration, Black Grove creates a new spatial landscape through the layered density and repetitive structure of threads woven over time. Composed in tones approaching total darkness, the work initially appears as a singular mass. Yet, upon closer observation, subtle variations in texture and movement emerge, revealing a complex tactile environment. The work reflects not only form but also the time and traces of repeated gestures embedded within the material.

Challenge

Existing simultaneously as an object and an environmental presence, the installation responds to surrounding light, air, and the viewer’s gaze. By quietly observing, viewers encounter subtle movements and slowly unfolding forms, awakening sensations and emotions often overlooked in everyday life.

Outcome
