The Curvature of Silence

An exploration into the tangible nature of void. This installation investigates how architectural interventions can dictate the rhythm of human breath and movement through the manipulation of light and soft membranes.

Overview

The Curvature of Silence was commissioned as a centerpiece for the Seoul Design Biennale. It serves as a physical manifestation of 'Ma', creating a space where the absence of matter is as significant as the structure itself.

Approach

We utilized advanced 3D modeling to simulate fluid dynamics, then translated these digital curves into physical forms using tensioned polymer membranes and a hidden skeletal frame of aircraft-grade aluminum.

Challenge

The Curvature of Silence was commissioned as a centerpiece for the Seoul Design Biennale. It serves as a physical manifestation of 'Ma', creating a space where the absence of matter is as significant as the structure itself.

Outcome

A 12-meter long installation that transformed the gallery's acoustics. Visitors reported a heightened sense of presence and a natural deceleration of pace upon entering the shadow of the curves.
